Many inmates exercise in prison to “stay fit”, but for a Brazilian facility, inmates are able to use exercise (in the form of pedaling a bike) to reduce their prison sentence. The mechanical work is converted to electricity that is later used for lighting street lamps for the public. For every 3 eight-hour pedaling shift, they’ll get a day off their sentence.

A move to end the death penalty in Utah is currently underway with the State Senate’s approval of a bill, SB 189, earlier this month. Within the United States are 80 youth prisons. Quite similar to normal prisons, these locations include security guards, locked doors, wire fences, and so on.
